"So first off we aren 't the wealthiest of families so eating out is a rare treat but Wakame is a rarer treat still! Lets start with the churlish part; what will it cost? Well lets say youre really craving eastern cuisine so you pop down the high street you have a start, a main and drink you 're looking about £20, probably more if you 're choosing the pricier options on the menu. But why spend £20 here when the chippy or McDonald 's costs less? Lets move on to the point of spending our hard earned money the VALUE for the money. Wakame has great service, the staff are friendly and polite, a much greater food selection (lots of options on that menu! and greatest of all you will leave with a full stomach even though its not an 'all you can eat ' buffet! My family of 3 ate for less than £50 (that includes a 10% tip from me as thanks and all left with full stomachs after buying 2 soft drinks, some hot sake, a 14pc Veg Sushi, 2 mains and a side of egg fried rice. So damn tasty I keep meaning to try different things when I visit, but... Ha, ha! Maybe next time!"

Delicious and authentic Japanese and Asian food. Best in Cheltenham for authentic Asian. Not like the over priced Montpelier offerings but family friendly and delicious

We visit Wakame on a regular basis and it never fails to disappoint us. The sushi is excellent and a great price compared to other places in town. Don't let the cafe type feel put you off, the food more than makes up for it

Absolutely nice food. Great experienced dine in, love the curry laksa which the broth so much delicious while my sister love the sushi very much. Recommend the yam taro cake, crispy Peking duck roll and chicken satay skewer which is not in the menu. The owner said new menu is coming soon.

I have been going to wakame with my family for over 4 years and the food has never disappointed. Fresh food and excellent service. All the staff and chefs are very friendly and the food is excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant! The Katsu curry is also a lot better than Wagamama. Big portions too.

Exceptional food served by very friendly young man. Gobsmacking value for money. If you love this kind of food, make the effort to visit this restaurant. Looks a bit unloved from the outside but it’s not about glitz, it’s about the food. The open kitchen is very interesting to watch. The Malaysian curry is to die for, the ramen is the best I’ve had outside of London. Well done Wakame, keep up the good work.

Had the most delicious, freshly prepared Japanese food. The spicy wings were the best we've ever tasted, the duck donburi was packed with meat and tasty fried rice, the salt n pepper squid, dragon rolls tempura prawns all arrived in quick succession- all perfectly cooked. Our full meal and drinks came to just £40! Excellent value gorgeous- much better than Wagamama and easily comparable to Kibou except this is a more stripped back authentic street food setting. We will be returning!

This place is GREAT. I have never dined in and only had takeaways, but their sushi is tremendous. Yes, Kibou is the posh, expensive, go to restaurant and their sushi is better, granted, but it 's just TOO expensive. Wakame have it spot on. The price is slightly lower and the sushi is of marginally less quality than Kibou. They also have some great choices, which some places don 't have, such as Ikura and soft shell crab. If you 're looking for good quality sushi and don 't want to take a mortgage out to have it, COME HERE you won 't be disappointed!

"The story: Two weeks prior, peeking through the restaurant window, I was intrigued to see the kitchen artizans hard at work creating sushi platters that looked vibrant but also elegant. On the 14th November at lunchtime, I was looking forward to trying Kibou as Japanese cuisine is one of my favourites. It's very hard to see the same level of unique variety that Kibou has compared to the few Japanese restaurants I am local to. We wanted to try an array of items and the mini seasonal menu had just been released in time for our visit as well. The food: The Jo Moriawase and New Style Sashimi were great introductions to the first impressions of the quality and range of the dishes available as they were the assortment dishes. Our server provided us with guidance on what we should try first on the Jo Moriawase in order to prevent ending up with eating soggy nori which we appreciated. The Black Cod Nigiri is nothing I have ever tried before so this was also an interesting experience for our tastebuds. My dad has a tough palate to appease but to my surprise, he was satisfied with the Spider Roll Temaki and Chashu Ramen (he thought the pork broth could have been less strong but nonetheless still enjoyed, not like the artificial flavourings you get in an instant ramen if you know what I mean). The Chirashizushi was great for me as I love my sashimi. I didn't realise the yellow portions were actually tamago/egg roll until I tasted it. Some sort of gastronomical wizardry? My mum really lavished the Yaki Udon textures, with the udon noodles having the right amount of nudge needed to chew and biting into the nice crispy outer layer of the tofu. My only regret is not having enough room to try the desserts. Overall, a unique adventure for the tastebuds! The price: If you are extremely budget conscious, perhaps I would not be able to recommend Kibou to you. For a family of three, we were about £40-50 per person. As of my visit, the service charge is 10%. Don't get me wrong though, I think the service charge is fair and reasonable because our experience with the staff we talked to and came by our table were lovely. The atmosphere: Family-friendly but also evening bar feel. Sakura Cherry Blossom and other Japanese-related art themes run throughout the restaurant. The service: We didn't have to wait very long to be seated or served. The waiting staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. The kitchen staff did an amazing job with the food. Would I come again?: Yes, as a treat! Plus I want to try the dessert next time! :"
