"We arrived for lunch at 12pm and found that the small restaurant was full with no available seats. Instead of dining in, we opted for takeout. Despite the limited number of tables, the place seemed to be struggling with service. Several tables were occupied, and we noticed two couples who arrived after us were left waiting with menus for the entire 30 minutes we were there. The waitress appeared unsure of what to do, and the overall service seemed disorganized. It seems like there may be new ownership, but there is a need for better training or more staff to improve the situation. However, the food itself was delicious, and we hope that on our next visit, the restaurant has improved its organizational skills."

"We stopped here for coffee late on a Sunday morning. We hadn’t booked and the cafe was busy, but were offered a table at the far end of the seating area. Once seated we realised this was going to be very noisy (there was a large party enjoying brunch right next to us so the very helpful waitress offered to move us to the sofas near the door. This was perfect, much quieter and altogether more comfortable. Our coffees were very good, my request for hot milk produced a big jug of it many cafes give only a thimbleful. The scones were amazing, some of the best I’ve had for years absolutely delicious, enormous, served warm with the farm’s own excellent jam. We had the special, raspberry, white chocolate and granola. (Plain and cheese were also available. The bill was significantly lower than several places we have visited recently. About £11.50 we’ve been charged £15 and even, once, almost £20 for 2 coffees and scones in Aberdeenshire over the past year. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We’ll definitely plan to return as soon as possible."

"Be careful you do not get a thick fried chip in your coffee! My brother didn’t like to complain that his coffee tasted a bit off. However having chocked on greasy chip while drinking his latte, it was clear a complaint would have to be made. Yes staff were full of apologies but there was no offer of the latte being free. I had to tell them I was not paying for the latte before it was agreed. It was their mistake, not mine. Then some older staff member got involved and the reason I’m writing this review why she felt she needed to get involved is beyond me … She made cheeky comments about me writing a review and that it was just a “mistake” Again, your mistake, not mine! First time Last time being here"

"First of all apologies to all those poor and terrible reviews that I ignored and shouldn’t have! Within half an hour of arriving we contemplated going home. Check in was a rushed affair with no exchange of pleasantries. The main focus of the female owner was for us to get our breakfast and dinner pre orders in ASAP. When I returned back through I started ordering breakfast and a comment was made about ‘that’s a lot’. When I said cereal and cooked breakfast, twice more comments were made about ordering a lot of food and was I sure I wanted so much. As someone who struggles with my body image I was mortified and asked was I not allowed to order what I had. It was pointed out I would be charged extra for cereal!! I ended up cancelling this more through embarrassment than anything else. (I have to point out here that we had spent two nights previously at the lovely Carnoustie Hotel. The Lodge was £50 dearer per room than Carnoustie who had no surcharges on anything and whose staff were super attentive. I’ve also worked in hotels so know about customer service) The room at the lodge whilst large and looking into the loch was not particularly amazing. On closer inspection it wasn’t very clean in corners and one of the face cloths was brown rather than white. The room above was occupied on second night and the room is not well insulated so we could hear every footstep, etc. I also felt that the shared walkway outside left the room with no privacy. We went for dinner in the very outdated restaurant/bar on the first night. There was a total of five other guests and no atmosphere at all. We had just sat down when our starters arrived, then my husband just finished the last bite of his when the plate was removed as clearly our main course was ready. This is what I hate about pre ordering the food had clearly been kept warming. Our plates cleared again no pleasantries, no checking if it was ok, nothing. Our sum total time for what was a basic pub grub dinner was 25 min start to finish! It was so disappointing and rushed that we went into Aboyne the second night for tea. Breakfast wasn’t much better Curt questions, overcooked bacon and black pudding, our dirty plates left in front of us so we didn’t feel welcome to sit and have a relaxing cup of tea to start the day. Just absolutely no finesse or luxury at all. I have no issue paying astronomical prices if you get what you pay for an you absolutely do not get value for money here and if not careful could run up a number of surcharges. The lodge is, as one other review states, a complete rip off especially when compared to our stay at Carnoustie and other much nicer hotels. I notice some people saying they felt like family well I must be the black sheep as I did not feel at all welcome at this place and was on edge whenever i was anywhere near the female owner after her attitude to me from the outset. The male owner didn’t even speak to me the whole stay and when my husband handed in key he was only concerned with had we paid no check made if everything had been ok. In fact we both felt that the owners were more focused on making money than customer service. So in conclusion take a lesson from my mistake and DO NOT stay here there are far more nicer places to go for a lot less money!! Read the other negative reviews as they are all pretty accurate and I wished I had listened to them."

"Very quiet for diners and busy take away. Walked in and sat down at a table. Never been to Wimpys before and was surprised when someone came up and handed us menus as we assumed it would be like McDonalds. Nice surprise however though were not amused to see it was 5.30/6 for a burger and 2 extra for chips and more for a drink! I ordered the mushroom burger and my wife the bbq burger, both with chips and mine a mango smoothie and my wife a strawberry shake. both drinks were nice and brought quickly. two people came over to take the order, one training? girl was awful though unsmiling and looked bored. two minutes later the girl came over and handed us the bill. This is just unprofessional and should be left til we ask for it! told the card machine wasnt working so wife had to go looking for a cash machine. mozarella sticks were nice however arrived 5 minutes before everything else. burgers were ok and chips though not worth the 22 bill for 2 people! ok but wouldnt visit again unless desperate! also no sauces offered or cutlery though other people were offered/."

"Exceptionally unfriendly experience. Don't know about the food, they wouldn't serve us for another 45mins as they were waiting on a larger group, who weren't anywhere to be seen as far as we could see. Big let down as this was for a group of 7 foreign visitors, who just wanted a snack! Even if you couldn't serve us, which is of course entirely up to you. You could have 1. Showed some manners and 2. Been just a bit more helpful. Very disappointed, as I can see this place has received previous poor reviews relating to rudeness from staff. They may not have learned, but I have learned not to return. Great shame, as the Brasserie is within a lovely setting!"

"I placed my first order today at this restaurant, and I was a bit anxious because I have celiac disease and need to eat gluten-free. However, I didn't need to worry because the gluten-free haddock and chips were delicious, hot, fresh, and of great quality. My husband also thoroughly enjoyed his jumbo haddock. It's great to know that there is a local place where I can get gluten-free fish and chips. Thank you, guys, I really appreciate it."

"Three star hotel? Only in price! The Redgarth exceeds all expectations. Our favorite hotel of the trip, wish we could have stayed an extra day. Huge parking lot, beautiful garden set in the peaceful village of Oldmendrum. This boutique hotel with just 6 rooms is nestled in an upscale neighborhood. Our Deluxe Double Room with Balcony was very spacious with comfortable chairs and coffee table, desk, king sized bed, shelves, and nightstands. The bathroom was similarly large with tub/shower combo and plenty of room for our personal toiletries. The hotel and rooms were tastefully and colorfully decorated. We stayed in the “Yew” room (loved this, being a tree-lover). The front view was of the staff parking lot (not busy) and the neighborhood. The back view from the bathroom was the wider view of the valley. The room next to ours (Ash) had a better balcony out the back. One of the best features of this room was the skylight with light blocking shades so we were still able to go to sleep at a reasonable hour amid the late sunset. We were able to walk from the hotel around the town though a car is required to get to Oldmeldrum. The restaurant was excellent. The bar offered a large selection of Scottish made gins and whiskies. This was a favorite spot for locals. The owner and host, Stuart, is extremely welcoming and friendly—we felt like family! Dinner was excellent. I had the Sunday roast—marvelous. We chose to eat both nights’ dinners at The Redgarth. Included breakfast was cold—fruit and yogurt and then pastries, cheese and cold cuts—very filling and fresh! We highly recommend this hotel."

"Walked in group of 8 ok it was busy at the time so there was a little wait for the table. Sat down and ordered at the till to then wait 25-30 mins for our food. I understand when your busy it can be a bit of a wait but when a table of 5 and a table of 4 come in after us order and get their food before us is unacceptable. Then i find a hair in my COLD chips litterally just out of the fryer apparently. NOT ON! said to the staff No refund No appology but asked if i would want more ehh NO THANKS...also the garbage outside is disgusting dog poop bags at the front door of your cafe... very hygenic indeed ... i will not be back to this place!!!"

"My wife and I were travelling up North, feeling hungry as it headed to lunch time. We phoned ahead to book a table in case of a lunchtime rush. The table was kept for us. We had a beautiful light lunch. Paninis for both of us. Cheese and ham, which my wife enjoyed, for myself, haggis, and cheese, which was wonderful. Staff were friendly and efficient. Nice, cosy atmosphere, and good prices. Would recommend to anyone if you're hungry pop in and enjoy The Villa Coffe Shops menu. Will be back next time we pass. Mr Mrs MacDonald"

"This charming café offers delicious homemade food at affordable prices. Although I didn't intend on having dessert, I couldn't resist when I saw it displayed in the cabinet. The portions are generous, the food is top-notch, and the prices are exceptional. If you're in Banff, this place is definitely worth a visit."

"The haddock and chips were fantastic and served promptly, despite being cooked to order. The restaurant had a very safe environment in terms of COVID-19 precautions, with the option to order inside and wait outside. At £8.50, the meal was very reasonably priced, especially considering the generous portion size. The fish was delicious and perfectly crispy inside its batter. I don't understand the negative reviews at all."

"On a dark rainy Friday night I visited Skippers for the first time in a while, I did see an A4 notice full of text on the door but it was lashing rain, dark, I was wearing a mask, my specs were steaming up and I had my hood pulled tight so didn’t stand outside to read it. If I had stood and taken the time to read the notice I wouldn’t be writing this review but that is not really the point here. I entered the shop, used the hand sanitiser and walked up to the order window and placed an order only to be asked if I had phoned. I hadn’t phoned and was told, with no apology, that they were only taking phone orders between 5 and 7pm as they were really busy. I turned to walk out and as I did the owner, in a loud voice, said to his young staff and the one customer in the shop “there goes another one stomping out”. I am not normally a confrontational person but by the time I reached the door I was seeing red after his most unnecessary comment (I consider it a form of harassment). I turned and asked him what he had just said, he replied with something like there is a note on the door, my reply was that I hadn’t been in for a while and had been unaware of the fact and that with an attitude like his I certainly would not be back. I made a suggestion on his Facebook page that he pin a note on it regarding phone orders only 5 to 7 pm my comment/suggestion was deleted without reply or apology. This owner’s attitude to customer relations is non existent and constructive criticism seems lost on him. I will not be back to this establishment but I doubt that the owner really cares."

"tasty and punctual. the staff was nice and the food was great. I had a prawn corma that was super, but a little sweet for my pleasure, but still delicious. I also tried the veg nan brot I had never before, so I can't compare it with everything, but I found it a tender bite and wish I had gone for my ordinary peshwari. my friend had a chicken dish and said it was delicious. we have free poppadome and pot the sose, so it was really a good value for money."

"Ballater is a beautiful gem of a town tucked in the Cairngorms and well worth a visit. We stayed at the Balmoral Inn which is styled like a hunting fishing lodge with beautiful decor and comfy furniture. The rooms are sumptuous and the bathrooms spacious. Parking is free on the street outside. Reception staff were welcoming and friendly and as soon as we arrived we wished we booked for 2 nights not just 1. The tea coffee making facilities in the rooms included 2 Tunnocks tea cakes and 2 Tunnocks wafers very generous and authentically Scottish. We dined in the restaurant and the meal was delicious, however the young staff could benefit from a bit more training. One of us ordered a starter but the waitress didn’t note this so our mains arrived after 45mins but they offered to bring it as a salad alongside mains which wasn’t ideal. When we ordered a bottle of red wine the waiter brought it and just plonked it on the table leaving the screw cap on, and we requested the bill be split across the 2 rooms but this never happened. Fantastic live music played through dinner and breakfasts were delicious and staff at breakfast were excellent and very efficient and helpful (one of which was waitress from night before so excellent improvement). We played twilight golf at Ballater GC just a few minutes walk up the same road and the course was stunning with incredible views."

"My sister and I stayed at this restaurant for one night to celebrate a birthday party. I called ahead to confirm our room type and spoke to a very helpful and friendly staff member, who I believe may be the owner. He was very kind. When we arrived, we were escorted to our room and helped with our bags. The room was a family room, which was spacious, clean, and bright, with a double and a single bed. It was very comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. We also enjoyed a delicious dinner at the restaurant and a lovely breakfast the next morning. The staff were fantastic!"

"Visited the restaurant at Raemoir garden centre with friends for a light lunch however, it was difficult to find anything plain on the menu. The Lite Bites menu seemed to contain so many ingredients so if you didn 't like one you were stuck. Sandwiches and baked potatoes all seemed to contain mayonnaise, coleslaw, onion or pickle etc, and if you cannot have cheese you are limited. Even the chicken salad contained bacon, caesar dressing and Parmesan cheese topped with croutons. All salads are served with red onion or avocado with a dressing on the side. Difficult if you don 't like any of these ingredients. If you want a heavier lunch such as fish and chips then this is the place to go. My friends had a full meal which they enjoyed and judging by the queue to get in, this is a popular place. The servers were polite and pleasant."

"I recently visited Asha's Indian Aroma in Peterhead after searching for a nice restaurant without having to travel to Aberdeen. It was definitely worth the visit. The staff took great care of us from the moment we walked in until we left. I like a bit of spice in my food, so I asked the waiter for a recommendation and they nailed it. I have now found my new favorite dish. Although it was busy when I visited on a Saturday, we expected that and it did not detract from our experience. My only regret is not going on Sunday night when they have a buffet, which I definitely want to try in the future. The bill for our party of 3 was reasonable considering the quality and portion sizes of the food we received. We had enough leftovers that we were able to take some home with us."

"My experience visting the deli lunch was a 7/10 untill myself my partner went to visit the other week. We ordered our food as we usually do being locals to Stonehaven. Only to be discovered with 6 months out of date salsa. When we told possibly the owner(slim women with brown hair) along side a very bad attitude.. she grabbed the plate of food we paid for and remade us another plate along side a new bottle of salsa that thankfully was in date.. we felt so awkward sitting eating our food there. We never even got an apology for serving us out of date food. Maybe a little communication with your customers wouldn’t go a mess and realised when you’ve messed us maybe do something nice for them to make them aware you know your in the wrong and that your sorry. Instead of grabbing our plates to then get your other employe to basically throw the new plate of food down on the table. Will not be returning sadly......"
