"After exploring Thor's Cave, my friend and I stumbled upon this restaurant. We thought you can never go wrong with Thai food. Upon entering, we were greeted by a woman who seemed uninterested in serving us, and the decor of the place looked like it had not been updated since the 90s. The worn carpets and the outdated bathrooms could definitely use some renovation. We finally sat down, and the waitress asked us a very basic question about our food choices, which made us question if she had even consulted the chef. My friend ordered the prawn dish, while I opted for the chicken satay. The prawns were average, and the chicken satay was tolerable. However, when our main dishes arrived, the smell was off-putting and the noodles were drowning in sauce. It tasted fishy, but when we asked the manager (or owner), they insisted that there was no fish sauce in the dish. We took our first bite and were extremely disappointed with the flavors. It was so bad that we couldn't finish our meals. I have never returned food at a restaurant before, but this time it was necessary. We paid for our meals and left feeling let down. It truly ruined what was supposed to be a pleasant evening."

I enjoyed the food at this restaurant. The decor was dated but authentic, although it did not look well-maintained, which was disappointing. It may be time for a renovation.

Great little restaurant in a basement with a cozy feeling.Better to check with the staff if you have dietary requirements as for example one of the vegetarian dishes has oyster sauce in it ...

We went to Thai Basement after it was recommended in the guidebook of the cottage we were staying in. The food was amazing, portion sizes were spot on and service was good. It was a lovely meal to end our trip away. Speisekarte ansehen

Absolutely amazing food! Honestly one of my favourite restaurants. The lamb shanks are a must have being so tender with the perfect amount of spice. I highly recommend the duck tamarind and the duck spring rolls. Sweet and sour chicken and even the prawn crackers are to die for. Finish up with a banana cup cake or three to finish off an amazing meal. The staff are kind and all very cheerful with impeccablecustomer service. The restaurant is cosy and the lighting helps keep the perfect late dinner mood. All in all a wonderful place and even better people, extremely impressed.

we were very excited to eat here as we love all Thai foods. my parents wanted to pick up the farewell and didn't get a very warm welcome. they also forgot one of our courts they had to wait for. the apology was out of hand. the worst part, however, was our prawn pad thai that had a huh in it. 2 of our party are pescetaric, so it could not eat, despite this being, to share the court we had ordered. I actually ate some of that huh before I realized what I was angry when I wasn't eating a huh. the rest of the food was good, but that really overshadowed our meal. will never go back and warn people

"In the beginning, God created many things from Monday to Saturday and on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. Or did he? No. No he didn’t. On the seventh day God created Bennys. This biblical reference does not do justice to just how divine a Bennys is. It is a kebab/pizza/fast food shop steeped in glory and mystery. Some scholars have actually considered Bennys as the final resting place of both the ark of the covenant and the Lance of the Longinus. If Dan Brown has written another book, I have no doubt Bennys would have featured because the food is so good. I have been to Bennys three times a holy trinity of visits. Each time I have opted for a seminal chicken kebab. The chicken has been fresh and plump and proper (a bird sacrificed for the grace of our plates). The spices have oozed with flavour, cleansing my very soul. The pitta has been strong and resolute in its carrying of the other constituent items of perfection. The salad has been clean, cutting through the spice, to reclaim the innocence of my tastebuds for another spiritual bite. The hot sauce has teased my palate (and my perineum) with a fiery wet heat of a culinary miracle. The chips have been a hybrid of soft and crispy, like a kettle chip which has had an illegitimate child with a cloud. And the garlic mayonnaise, oh yes the garlic mayonnaise, embodies the fulcrum of the holy trinity of God. I believe in a church. The church of Bennys. It is wholesome, it is great, it guides me to the green pastures of hope, away from the barren epoch of servitude you get with other late night food venues. Benny was the 13th apostle and he founded his church here in Ashbourne. I once saw a drunk 19 year old get hit by a 2013 Renault Twingo outside of Bennys. Was he hurt? Was he maimed? No, a beam of alabaster white light transcending mind and soul came out of Bennys as it happened. He walked again. It’s not my place to say, but if that accident had happened anywhere else, I don’t think he would have lived. To me, Bennys is more than a kebab shop. Maj and the boys run one hell of an establishment. Just like Derbyshire was home to the Arkwright mills and the birthplace of the industrial revolution, it is home to Bennys my church. While the Arkwright Mills had consequences for the direction of mankind, so too, to a far greater extent, does Bennys. Fun fact: just down the road from Ashbourne is Belper where Timothy Dalton grew up."
