"The Singing Kettle used to be a charming spot for food, especially cream teas. I have fond memories of visiting with my mum and Nan years ago, as well as more recently with my partner and son. However, it's no longer the same. What was once a lively part of the community is now lacking in character and is quite expensive. The restaurant often isn't open when it's supposed to be, which has led to many people being disappointed. The lack of consistency and planning behind the scenes may sadly result in the closure of this longtime establishment. It would be wonderful to see The Singing Kettle restored to its former glory and continue to be a beloved spot in town."

"This had been recommended to us, so we went with rather high expectations. There were some interesting items on the menu, sadly some unavailable. I ordered chicken, and had eaten about 80% of it when I came across a chunk that looked suspiciously raw. It was hard to tell in the dim lighting of the pub, but I stopped eating and when the plates were cleared I mentioned it to the server. She said she would tell chef, and came back a few minutes later to say that chef thought it was cooked ok.... We ordered a dessert to share a chocolate delice or similar, served with cherries, and were a little surprised to get a chocolate tart with strawberries and clotted cream. By this time we didn't feel like making a fuss, and just wanted to get away quickly. We may have been just unlucky, but around us other diners were given the wrong orders. Smiling servers are lovely, but the whole service just felt a bit haphazard. And I had hoped for a small reduction in our bill for the uneatean food, but this didn't happen."

"Cannot recommend this pub highly enough. Not only is the food exceptional and the ale is great; They manage to create an atmosphere that is both very much a real, heart of the community pub for locals, whilst welcoming guests and passers by. We have young kids and they are always made so welcome. Last night in addition to the fabulous provision of good kiddie meals/cutlery/etc, the kids were even given a busy box to play with whilst we enjoyed our lovely time there. It had puzzles, games, colouring. They were so happy. If you are looking for a sunny drink in the garden, it’s a gorgeous spot. Or a place to go for a roast with your Gran, we’ve never been disappointed. Maybe it’s rainy on Dartmoor….we’ve played many a board game by the fire. The food is always of a very high standard and the menu is ever changing so it’s also perfect for a classy date night. You might wonder why I write such a gushy review. It’s because this pub is really special. It’s the heart of our community and people visiting it will keep it alive, fantastic and thriving for years to come. I tell all my friends about it…so I thought I’d tell the strangers on the internet too."

"I have been a longtime fan of this restaurant, but my recent visit left me disappointed and slightly embarrassed after hyping up the experience to my friends. It seems like there may have been some cost-cutting measures implemented, as the service style and meal structure have changed for the worse. Dining here used to be special, but this time it was average and lacking in comparison. The portion sizes and variety of dishes have noticeably decreased. The starters we received were mediocre, served on small plates. The main dishes failed to impress, with only one side dish meeting the old standards. The vegetarian options have always been a letdown, and this visit was no exception. The desserts, which used to be indulgent and unique, have now become small portions of basic cake with minimal garnishes. Overall, the experience was underwhelming and disappointing. We left the restaurant feeling unsatisfied and hungry within a couple of hours. Unless I hear of improvements, I doubt I will be returning."

"We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant in Harberton on Sunday. The staff gave us a warm welcome and the Sunday lunch was superb. While we didn't make a reservation beforehand, I would suggest doing so next time. It's worth noting that my father was actually born just a few doors down at Rose Cottage."
