"On Friday evening my son and I were late out of Belfast and decided that we would get something to eat before heading on out home. We were travelling up the Malone Road when I remember the Malone lodge had a great restaurant, so we turned left into Eglantine Avenue and parked up. If you’ve never been in the Malone Lodge its fabulous. The setting is luxurious and lavish. There is a spacious reception area with plenty of seating. It really is a great spot to meet a friend for coffee or have an informal business meeting. On the left on the way in is also an in-house bar again with plenty of room. The Malone Lodge can also cater for conferences or weddings with plenty of function rooms and a wonderful hospitality team who will make your event flow seamlessly. Talking of their team Susie and Fisel were wonderfully attentive and friendly, we both enjoyed the evening and they had a lot to do with that. The menu looked tasty to say the least. They have a great offer on, two courses for under twenty pounds and three courses for under twenty-five. Considering the environment you are eating in and the standard of their food, it makes it a great choice, especially as it’s a fifteen-minute stroll into town which helps burn the calories off. We started the dinner off with scallops and goat’s cheese. Benjamin had the seared scallops, black pudding, carrot puree and watercress. It was a few years back when he tasted scallops for the first time off my plate at another restaurant. They had become a firm favourite of his now and he says that they always remind him of me. I don’t know what to make of that. He thoroughly enjoyed them. I tasted one just to be nosey and see how they performed. Textbook, great cooking and seasoning. I have noticed the flooding of salad, beetroot, walnuts and goat’s cheese into the menus around Belfast in recent times. Don’t get me wrong I like this classic combination. But I also find it is the perfect barometer to see how good a kitchen is. With a dish this simple, if they get this wrong, I don’t think there is much hope for the rest of the menu. This version was full of surprises and set me up for the rest of the meal. I decided to go for the salmon main. I think it was the inclusion of cockles that decided it for me. It has been ages since I have had them and was so looking forward to having them again. Crushed potatoes and a beautifully light persillade sauce accompanied the seafood duet. The salmon was ‘on fleek’ as my daughters would say. It is so refreshing to have in mind what a dish should be and have the chef produce the dish in a way that brings the anticipated to the plate. And those pickled cockles were the exclamation point on the dish. Predictably Benjamin went for steak. A 10oz sirloin, chunky chips, green peppercorn sauce and a tomato compote. It looked spectacular. I stole a chip as they were set down. Wow. I do love my chips a these were regal. The steak was ordered medium and that’s what he got. It just looked wonderful. If mine wasn’t so good I would have been so jealous. The portion size on this was huge, the steak was probably more like 12-14oz. Great value for money. The size of the steak did work in my favour as Benjamin was stuffed and didn’t want any dessert. But as for me, there is always room for dessert. So a sticky toffee pudding was sent for and delivered with all that and more. The orange toffee sauce was ‘stonking’ what a great idea. The sauce coated the pudding like a silk glove and the vanilla ice cream killed me. So opulent and rich in flavour, I immediately thought about booking a room for the night to sleep it off. If you haven’t been here for a meal, then please make room for a night out here. It is a fantastic venue with great staff and food. As I have also stayed over here before, I also would recommend the rooms, luxury is the term that springs to mind. I’m so glad I remembered The Malone Lodge and so will you."

One of our friends was staying at the hotel and we met up for dinner. Nice reasonably priced meal, however my coronation chicken roulade starter was a little bland, more than made up for by the lovely tasty cushion of lamb. I’m Coeliac and was looked after very well, including GF toast, desert was good also.

Breakfast was included with our hotel stay and was very good! Nice selection in the continental section and several choices of hot meals, something for everyone. Went back in the evening and had a very good club sandwich. Noticed the tables and chairs are starting to be on the worn side but worth checking out!

Excellent service from start to finish. Tony the F&B manager and his staff were brilliant. We enjoyed a fantastic 3 course meal, great menu choice but crab and soup starter followed by the sirloin steak won in the end!! Steaks cooked to perfection with cheesecake and chocolate fondant to finish off. Coulnt fault any of it. Looking forward to a return visit.

Attached to the Malone Lodge Hotel this bistro style restaurant has a good varied a la carte menu. The staff were particularly helpful and friendly and the food was well cooked and very tasty. The menu has a nice variety, sea food, belly of pork, steaks and is reasonably priced. You cannot charge your food/drinks to your room if staying in the hotel but this a a good dining experience without breaking the bank.

Staying in the area, and dropped into Malone Lodge...for a bite! The Knife and Fork was a small intimate restaurant serving both pub grub and more upscale dinners. The service was fabulous, but the food! Exceptional! Tasted great, beautifully presented, and great value! The next day we popped back into the bar... Macklins.....what a great little spot! Ordered Paninis...which were well priced, and believe me...almost a full meal! Huge portions! This little gem of a hotel is a real find..close to downtown..the Hop On, Hop Off stoops across the street, the people are friendly and accommodating......loved it! If u r a fan of small intimate places, this is the place for u!

I went to this restaurant as it was close to my accommodation. The restaurant lacked atmosphere and the service was slow at best and mediocre at worst. The waiter did not offer a wine list and seemed uninformed as to what was on offer. The evening menu was a set menu of either 2 or 3 courses. By city standards, the price was reasonable. My wine was not properly chilled and was definitely overpriced I pay less than that for a large glass in London and I had a small glass!!! The food is cooked in an open plan kitchen, so one is able to see what goes on. The food is placed under lights when ready to go and it depends on the waiter as to how long it sits there.Luckily, I was there early, when th...

"enjoyed our evening in james st it was the best culinary experience of our trip! we had been happy to see this evening as we had a few hit-N-seals in the course of our trip to belfast. we were not disappointed and had the fabulous evening. we were quickly welcomed and sitting. the place is beautiful and spacious. revitalized and environment. the bar is great and would like to come back, only for drinks at the bar sometime. we ordered cocktails immediately. an Irish gin negroni and a traditional old fashion. my neger was absolutely excellent. I think the old fashion could have been done with real sugar cubes and not sugar syrup, but it wasn't too bad. we were quick to choose our wein. we chose a beautiful juicy red, the cline, the old vine zinfandel, 2019. to begin we had the ham hock terrine with piccalilli champ bread and some scallops with boar bell. the hanging-hock court was the best ham-hock I had. the homemade piccalilli was something else. really nice crispy and sharp sharp to help cut through the hammock and the champbrot was delicious crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. the scallops and black bells were disappointing, as they lacked no salt or genuine aroma or texture between them. we still ate it and shared the rest of my hammock. we both decided to go for the co. tyrone 270g fillet steak with sides of champ and truffle parmesan chips. red wine and pfeffer sauce. they were fantastic steaks. Actually, I didn't think I would finish mine, but I did. I have met the right choice with the jus and the truffle chips. they went so well together, the dryness of the parmesan and sweet, slightly greasy of the jus. the steaks were perfectly cooked. a medium and my medium rare. fantastic aroma on the grilled outside of the steak and beautiful texture when they pierce. we both agreed that the champ was the best champ we ever cost. it was hot, soft, so well aromatized with hot butter on the top of the copper serving pot melt. it was really the most incredible champ. I was too full of dessert. but my sample ordered the sticky toffee pudding sundae. the team was friendly enough to make me an espresso martini that was both decaf and not a sugar syrup. it was brilliant. we both managed to work our way, although a surprisingly light sticky toast desserts on Sunday. the team was fantastic. very friendly and chatting to us. the bar team did not stop, I had the pleasure of standing and watching them make a great selection of drinks and cocktails. the waiting staff were also very friendly when they check in with us at comfortable places to ensure that we were in order. we felt very well looked around. the service was very good, we didn't feel any hurry, it felt like such a free time in this restaurant. when we come back to belfast, we will be back in absolute terms and we will definitely recommend others. Thank you."
