"We were a party of 5, on a cold, very wet Saturday evening, coldest so far I would say! We drew up and saw a young family of 3 sitting with jackets on in the conservatory area, we were a bit concerned! We took a...seat at the back of the conservatory which proved to be a big mistake! There was a terrible draught coming from behind me, I did mention it and was told it was 27c at the middle of the room, but not where we were sitting!! I mentioned it a few times and sat with my shawl scarf on throughout! I pulled down the window blinds hoping that would help, nope!! We ordered our food, I asked about a vegetarian option for my husband, our waitress did say he could a veggie option on the curry and the tempura or risotto, which was helpful! I had to ask what was the soup of the day and also the pate!! I did feel that maybe in this day and age there should have been a small dedicated vegetarian area on the menu, but that’s just my opinion! 3 of our party had starters which were great, Cullen skink, scallops and langoustine tempura, Main courses arrived, 3 fish and chips, one lemon soul and one veggie tempura, all were excellent except for the veggie tempura which was large shards of onion and carrot in an albeit lovely batter, but not all vegetarians like huge chunks of vegetables! 4 of our party had a sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream, which was plentiful! Overall we had a pleasant meal, little or no atmosphere though, one of the younger waitresses (white shirt, black skirt) was friendly and more talkative, the waitress (dressed all in black)who served us was, we all felt a little disinterested and lacked any empathy with the guests! We asked for our bill, the youngest waitress came with the card machine and felt how cold it was only then did she check the windows to find there was one opened, hence the draught, which spoiled our visit because we were felling it cold!! We paid the bill and left a tip on the plate, no one came to say thank you for you custom, or have a nice evening, nothing!! All in all it was pretty inhospitable! Value you for money, it was good for the standard of the food!"

Truly superb seafood restaurant tucked away outside Fairlie. Customer service was outstanding as was the food, also the farm shop was excellent with friendly staff and advice. Can't wait to go back!

Saturday lunchtime visit, three adults. 1 portion mussels, 1 Fencebay Tapas to share. As we said to the staff, the only thing wrong with the meal was that it was such a long drive from Yorkshire to have it again. Thoroughly enjoyed by all. Speisekarte ansehen

This place really is a hidden gem. Didn't know what to expect at first. This is a wonderful, very small restaurant serving top quality fresh seafood. I had the most incredible shellfish platter, which included two lobsters!! I would highly recommend anyone in the area to come down here for something a little special.

Had the most amazing lunch at Fins after so many years of always wanting to go there. We had Cullen Skink which was hot and tasty, paired with the lovely home made bread. We then moved onto the hot shellfish platter which was absolutely delicious....It had oysters, mussels, langoustines, and squat tail lobster. It easily fed us both. We were well looked after by Caitlin and Phoebe thank you both. Really cannot recommend this enough and will definitely be going back on my next visit.

I am ashamed to admit this is our first visit to this lovely restaurant. We are not easily pleased, especially when it comes to sea food, but we were blown away by the meal tonight. We had oysters to start which were baked to perfection....The langoustine starters were both tasty and plentiful but the main courses were amazing. My wife had a beautiful piece of halibut with so many flavours around it topped with two enormous langoustine. I had the cod on a ratatouille which was cooked to perfection. We had to share a banana crepe as one was enough for two. The atmosphere was excellent and the staff were so pleasant and helpful. It won’t be long until we are back. Speisekarte ansehen

Having moved back to Ayrshire after some years we were really looking forward to a return visit to Fins and we were not disappointed. I had the mussels in Thai broth to start and my husband had the tempura langoustine. Both terrific. We had the...hot seafood platter to share along with an order of bread and oil. My goodness what a treat! We did our best but had to leave a few squat lobsters. Sacrilege I know but we should not have had the bread even although it was delicious. We had no room for dessert but sat back and enjoyed the last of our own wine. (It’s a BYOB with an £8 service charge). Staff were lovely and the whole experience lived up to our high expectations. Will definitely be bac...

Have been going here for nearly 20 years as an annual treat, this time it was probably our last. The dishes ranged from competent to laughably bad, the fish and chips in particular would have been sub standard even for a chip shop, with soggy batter on the fish and chips that were barely cooked. There were substitutions on other dishes that we were only told about on delivery. You would have thought a fish restaurant would make good tartar sauce. The sticky toffee pudding has always been legendary at Finns, this time, it tasted like it was bought in. Surprisingly poor service considering the staff almost outnumbered the diners. Couldn't even get the spelling right on the menu. We remember wh...

"Popped in for a coffee this afternoon, kind of wish I hadn 't. I asked for a Flat White, my freind had a Delux Cappuccino . We also asked about cakes. Both of us opted for the Apple Pie with Ice Cream. To say I was disappointed is a bit of an understatement. The pie was flat and soggy and to be honest wasn 't the best tasting apple pie. The ice cream was a single scoop of cheap Raspberry Ripple, the kind of cheap, nasty stuff I would have gotten as part of a primary school dinner some point in the late 1980 's. The pie arrived 1st then the coffee 's a minute or so later. We didn 't get any cutlery with the pie but assumed some would be brought over with the coffees... No. All we had was the teaspoon that came with the coffee, no decent sized spoon of fork and no napkin either (other tables had cutlery and napkins). My Flat White wasn 't really all that good, it was essentialy just a Latte and even then, the coffee wasn 't that decent. My freinds delux cappuccino was supposed to come with cream, marshmallows and a flake, I saw no evidence of the flake (unless it had sunk and dissolved), just extra dusted chocolate, a tiny bit of squirty cream and some very small marshmallows I wouldn 't say it looked delux Final point of annoyance was the price. £11.50 for 2 mediocre coffees and 2 worse than mediocre Apple Pies. Also they only take Cash! Not great in a post covid environment where every other business under the sun is trying to use contactless payments to reduce the chances of infection. Given the location and the competition, I would expect this place to be better. I was there a number of years ago and got decent coffee and a really nice slice of cake. Since then it has been remodelled and I believe changed owners. Even still, with a Costa next door, a restaurant/pub behind them, another coffee shop accross the street and several kiosk icecream/coffee/doughnut or chip shops all within 50yrds they really need to pick up their game. Prime position right on the prominade of a busy sea side town. I suppose they may be trying to get quantity over quality...? The only posative I can find is that the 2 x young women who were serving seemed pleasant and freindly, but that can 't make up for the poor quality products that were not worth the money being charged. I went there today largely because I enjoyed what I had the last time and would rather give my money to a local business rather than massive corporation like Costa but to be honest, I don 't think I will be back there any time soon."
