"Nice little terrace. Sweet waitstaff. I did have some issues with this place and dinner. Ordered a medium rare butchers choice steak and it came medium well. Person didn't check if everything was okay until 15 min in. Was served the wrong dish Fish was cooked nice, slightly flavorless. There were motion activated lamps that suddenly would light up really bright when people walked past. In total the food was average both me and my partner would rate the food and experience about 5.5/10 It was a bit frustrating as we went for a birthday celebration but this place has potential but currently not there yet."

"Le repas est tout simplement excellent. Nous avons pris le menu du soir ainsi que le cocktail maison. Bien présenté, les plats sont copieux et le goût est juste parfait. Merci au chef!Côté points négatif (d'où le 3/5) : nous avons du rester 2h30, le service était très très long. Le plat est arrivé presque froid. D'après nos voisins de table (qui semblaient habitués) cela n'arrive jamais...Problème ponctuel? Je ne sais pas. Je retenterai ma chance pour vérifier et peut être mettre un 5/5."

"We decided to take friends to the Baan Thai because we had already had a very pleasant evening there just over a year ago. The food was fine this time as well, perfectly pleasant although nothing amazing and there is definitely a tendency to style over substance considering the prices. The first time we visited the restaurant the ambiance and service had been perfect but this time we had a slightly brusque waitress, definitely in the French style rather than Thai, and who could really do with softening her approach just a little.As we were taking our friends out for the evening, my husband got up and discreetly paid the bill. Just before we left the manager came to our table, explained that they had mistakenly undercharged us (apparently they had charged us for a different table's meals) and then proceeded to recalculate and ask for the extra payment while we were all still at the table. This was unprofessional and should have been mentioned as we left."

"Bel établissement, salle bien décorée dans un style bourgeois chic, patio agréable avec pierres apparentes et fontaine. Personnel professionnel, attentionné envers le client. Service de standing: la composition des plats est indiquée, petits pains individuels au choix, ramassage des miettes, nappes blanches. Plusieurs vins au verre à 5€: bon blanc charentais et bon rosé Provence. 1er menu à 32€ (ou 27€ avec entrée-plat ou plat-dessert). Amuse-bouche servis même sans apéritif (3 pour chacun) + une pré-entrée. En entrée on a choisi les langoustines (avec huile de pistache et tartare melon/serrano), puis en plat le dos de cabillaud mousseline de fenouil et radis, en dessert le café gourmand et le Paris-Brest. Desserts décevants: dans le café gourmand, la coque du macaron était sèche et la pâte à choux du Paris-Brest n'avait pas levé, il était plat et la crème avait eu un coup de chaud on dirait. Peu de goût par ailleurs. C'est dommage. Même les mignardises offertes après le dessert étaient décevantes (mini cannelé pas très esthétique et mini rocher coco sec). Sinon dans le menu à 32€ on en a pour son argent. On reviendra un soir espérant que le bémol sur les desserts aura été corrigé. Possibilité d'acheter les bouteilles de vin servies au restaurant."

"The good reviews keep coming and deservedly so, though with caveats. Firstly the food we received was great, considering it’s just one chef preparing for a dozen or so tables its very well managed. The duck breast was possibly the nicest we’ve all tasted….but there’s the first caveat, we all had to have the same dish as the menu is tiny, choice is not what you come here to receive. Two main dishes, my allergies only meant I could eat the duck, and my wife and children only wanted the duck. We all had duck. The waitress/hostess was also sadly lacking in a friendly air and actually made me feel rather uncomfortable that we’d brought our children here for lunch – she also attempted to charge full price for the children’s food, admittedly there isn’t a children’s food option but the portions were half the size so full price was an unnecessary attempt in my opinion. Would I return? I’m glad I’ve been and would recommend others to visit – but no, I wouldn’t return. There aren’t many options in Cognac but the good ones I would say are better if you have children."
