"This was our 'local ' while we stayed at Thornhill 2 miles away. Unfortunately it was closed Monday Tuesday and didn 't do meals Sunday night so Wednesday night was our only option. That is a shame as we would probably have done 2 nights there and 2 nights at La Strada with hindsight. This pub is dog friendly very ! Dogs are welcomed and diners with dogs can sit where they like. The landlady is lovely chatty and friendly and very welcoming. It felt like we were regulars. Our starter was very slow coming and there had been a mix up, we didn 't complain but it was knocked off the bill. Amazing, we would never have asked for that. It was hummus, pitta bread and salad and nicely served and tasty.Mains: my husband had belly pork and mash which he declared to be superb. I had a chicken and mushroom pie as pies seem to be a speciality here. Well yes.... what a fabulous pie ! As tasty as it gets with chips, peas and a very tasty gravy. Absolutely yummy. As it was our last night I lashed out on a pudding and wow. The cherry creme brulee was the best I 've ever had served with amoretto ice cream and a shortbread biscuit. Divine !It was clear they were understaffed like so many places currently but staff rushed round doing their best.We live 130 miles away so can 't exactly pop back but if we could we most certainly would. If we had been there another 3 nights we would have eaten there 2 and 1 at La Strada which is close by. Definitely recommended if you are in the area of Royal Wootton Bassett or heading from Swindon to Avebury."

My husband and I had a lovely tasty lunch with friends. The food was delicious especially the bread and butter pudding with custard and cream! The staff were very attentive and helpful.

Courteous friendly staff make you feel welcome. We opted for the Sunday roast and we were not at all disappointed. Tender beef, pork and turkey with all the yummy trimmings. The roasties and stuffing were awesome. We would have loved the apple crumble with hot custard but they ran out. Sad faces !! Staff sincerely apologised. Very well worth the visit !!

The menu has all sorts which makes me cautious. I stuck to a standard pub meal which was actually very well cooked. I had mozarella salad (good, but rather large for me) and buttermilk chicken burger with home made cole slaw and fries all very good. Looking at the mixed reviews I think possibly they might do better by sticking to a more limited standard pub menu Welcoming to dogs anywhere in the place which is quite unusual.

Have not eaten here for years so was good to give it a try after yet another change of manager. generally all very positive. Both starters were very good and the Moroccan lamb particularly so. Service very efficient and friendly and only less impressive aspect were the deserts which were all along the same theme and the one we had was rather dull and tasteless. A bit of variety woudl not go amiss on this especially in the summer.

Staff are young and very efficient and friendly. Garden was about two thirds full but inside only two tables were taken which surprised me what with it being a Friday night. Menu is not over long, burgers and pies dominate with a few meat and veggie choices. Two of us had pies, the filling was tasty but the pastry was slightly hard and took some cutting. Came with chips and peas but would have expected a selection of veg. Desserts are OK but the cheesecake was very heavy and cloying.Expected a bit more going by previous reviews. What we got was just standard pub grub.

We visited on a Wednesday evening with friends. The pub was quiet. The menu was very limited, which was fine in itself on a weekday, but the quality of the main courses was mediocre. The dessert selection consisted of 2 different types of cake. Not even ice cream! So I wrote a personal letter to the landlord (who is new) to give him an opportunity to at least apologise without my going public with our complaint. He did not even bother to reply. All pubs have bad nights. It happens. But the failure to engage with disappointed guests was unforgiveable. We shall not return.

We went to The Crown today with two friends to celebrate our anniversary. The food really was top quality. I am famed for making poor decisions regarding steak but gave it a go today with crossed fingers. I had the fillet medallions with black pudding and was so pleased I did as the steak almost melted in the mouth I also had flowers delivered to the pub earlier in the day to give to my wife as a surprise. But the bigger surprise was the two waitresses who sang us a Happy Anniversary song along with a dance when the flowers were presented.A great touch that really made it a wonderful day.Thank You

I’m always honest and try to give a fair and balanced review of my experience. We found the pub to be rather chaotic, noise levels were so load it was impossible to hold a conversation. There were several families with children who were being allowed to run around their tables and not social distance from other diners. The staff made no effort to try to control this. Some staff were not wearing masks. Staff were slow to take our order, with both drinks and we had to ask if we were to be given menus. We ordered Sunday lunch, but all meals were barely lukewarm. There was a good selection of veg which was hot but all the meat dishes were tough. A bug bear of ours, is why do pubs think that every...

"We stayed here ten years ago and thought it was wonderful and worth every penny. We were so excited to return, but really Disapointed. The grounds are lovely and we were pleased with our room. The children loved the outdoor space and the pool What really let us down was the food and service. There was no luxury here. The family dining choices were poor. The children's meal was bad one had fish gougons and sweet potato fries which were very salty. The other two had pizza, the small was served as half a pizza, the large was a conventional round shape. Both were shop bought bases (cardboard) with grated Cheddar on the top. Something I would not feed them at home let alone expect in a supposedly high end dining. My husband's steak was chewy. My main, whole plaice with creamed potatoes, the potato was served in a ceramic dish and it was cold. It was taken away and then took ten minutes to return by which point I had eaten the fish. The food was incredibly expensive considering how poor the offerings were. The next day we ate a very late lunch in Bath so we would not have to eat at the hotel. The breakfast buffet area had some nice items but was really understocked and allowed to run to empty. The staff functioned but not at a steady rate, we found the service slow and the staff disinterested. Such a contrast to our previous visit. The person in charge we found sullen and felt as if our presence was an inconvenience. When we walked through to the dining areas we would hop out of the staff'so way for fear of being bulldozed. When we left the receptionist was polite but did not ask if we enjoyed our stay. A week later I had an email to complete a survey and nobody got in touch despite the same feedback as given here. Very dispointing. Lovely room and surroundings but poor food and poor attitude from staff. Last year we stayed in a hotel that cost 65% less than Wooley Grange and had a much better experience."

"We had a tremendously good lunch here today-the food was quite delicious, the staff were very friendly and helpful-I’d say it’s probably one of the best lunches I’ve had in quite some time….so to give you a clue we both had the pork-this sounded really lovely and we were not disappointed-pork belly, tenderloin,a faggot and a ham hock croquet with mashed potato and roasted cauliflower with a delicious jus and a slice of pickled apple( which I ate immediately with a piece of pork and when the waiter came to ask how our lunch was I asked if he could possibly get me another piece-which he did For dessert we shared the passion fruit crème brûlée which came with a passion fruit sorbet and some chocolate soil…..the focaccia we had at the start of the meal was superb and the coffee was also excellent -we do enjoy both cooking and eating-one of life’s pleasures and it’s abundantly clear the chef absolutely loves food too-a great display of cooking books from the greats sort of got me thinking it would be a good lunch…….also worth noting the drinks menu-some lovely wines, soft drinks and cocktails both alcoholic and non alcoholic. I finished off with a mocha which was hot chocolatey but not too sweet. Bradford on Avon is most definitely worth a visit and I’d say you would be foolish to miss out on a great experience if you didn’t also pop in to the bunch of grapes for some sustenance while there… Thanks for lunch and as Arnie says “ we’ll be back”….."
